camera

The camera that took these pictures is a DeVry motion picture camera operated in single-frame mode and on its side, so the pictures are taller than they are wide. The camera uses 100-foot reels of 35mm film. Each reel holds 1500 exposures.

An additional lens has been fitted which looks down to a stack of address cards under the camera. The serial number on the top card is exposed onto the film between the edge of the film and the sprocket holes. In this way an individual negative is associated with the correct address card.

A 1938 penny has been soldered to the camera body to effect a repair.

The sample photo taped to the view-finder is of two women outside the Cliff House in the 1950's.
